Doric Film Festival returns

19th September 2019

The director of Scots Radio, Frieda Morrison, is pleased to announce that the Doric Film Festival is set to return. First held in 2018, the festival celebrates North East identity and encourages budding film-makers to use the North East dialect of Scots affectionately known as The Doric.

Entries are now invited for this year’s theme – ‘Jist Faar I Bide’ – from community groups, individuals, and schools, with the Doric dialect as the common thread. You don’t have to be a film-maker as free training sessions will be available cross the North East.

There are three categories of entry consisting of community groups, individuals and schools with a top prize of £500 to be awarded in each one. Frieda Morrison commented that “...we are looking for a five-minute film, in Doric, that celebrates the North East in all its crannies, colours and contermashes neuks.”

Entries may be submitted from 1st October 2019 and must be no more than five minutes in duration. All text and dialogue must be in North East Scots (Doric) and completed entries must be received by 30th April 2020. An awards ceremony will be held on 30th June 2020 where the short-listed films will be presented on the big screen. To find out more about this festival please visit or .
