Tribute to Tom Leonard

7th February 2019

Seats at the Tribute to Tom Leonard are now sold out. Tom Leonard (1944-2018) was a well known Scottish poet, writer and critic noted for writing in the dialect of Glasgow, spelling his poetry to indicate every sound and nuance of the city. Perhaps his best known single poem is The Six O’clock News in which he is scathing about the way language is shaped and controlled by people in power in relation to the general population, and particularly English vis-a-vis Scots. The Tribute to Tom Leonard will take place at the Scottish Poetry Library, 5 Crichton’s Close, Edinburgh, from 1.30-3pm on Saturday 2 March. The event will be hosted by Jenni Fagan and Pauline McLean and among those contributing will be Liz Lochhead and Joy Hendry.
