Joe Corrie Project

25th June 2013

A new CD collection has recently been released which will no doubt prove of much interest to followers of poetry, music and song in Scots. Well known Fife poet William Hershaw was given permission a couple of years ago to record the poems of Fifer Joe Corrie (1894-1968) who was a poet and playwright from Cardenden. His work is particularly noted for its comment on the harsh life of the mining communities back in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Called ‘The Joe Corrie Project: Cage Load of Men’, the CD features sixteen poems set to contemporary and traditional music covering a range of styles, and performed by The Bowhill Players who include The Hershaws, Davey Stewart, Fiona Forbes, Jenn Knussen and The Dandylions. CDs can be ordered by contacting Birnam CD on 01350 727158 or info@birnamcd.com .
