Scots Language Centre Centre for the Scots Leid

Scottish Writing Exhibition

13th December 2006

Now in our third year, we are very excited to be presenting an expanded exhibition of Scottish writing at the Modern Language Association (MLA) convention in Philadelphia from the 28-30 December. The MLA is the largest convention in the humanities and so provides an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of Scottish writing among academics and university lecturers, and to encourage and support the re-introduction of Scottish literature into the university/research curriculum. This year we are delighted to be hosting Liz Lochhead and Theresa Breslin for an evening of reading and whisky at Robin's bookstore, the oldest independent bookstore in Philadelphia. This is our first venture outside the convention itself and we are delighted to have the support of the Scottish Executive for the event, and we are also very excited to be collaborating with Executive to help spread the word about their Fresh Talent Initiative, a program aimed at attracting international students to Scotland. For more information on all events and details on the books being showcased at the MLA, please visit our website: www.scottishwriting.org.uk or email the exhibition managers Gwen Enstam genstam@yahoo.com or Duncan Jones d.jones@scothist.arts.gla.ac.uk
