Two more classics

16th December 2020

This December has seen the publication of more classic cartoon adventures in the Scots language. Publisher Dalen Scot has recently released Scots translations of classics from the world famous Tintin and Asterix genres which have now been going since 1929 and 1959 respectively, and have been much loved by generations of Scottish children.

The first of these new translations is Asterix and Caesar’s laurel bunnet, by children’s author Matthew Fitt. In this story, Asterix and Obelix are sent to Rome by their chief Heidbummerix to steal Caesar’s laurel leaves and they end up in the usual scrapes. The book is 48pp, priced £7.99 (ISBN 978-1-913573-21-8).  This latest story now joins several available in the Scots language which include Asterix the Gallus, Asterix and the Gowden Heuk, Asterix the Bonnie Fechter, Asterix and Cleopatrae, Asterix and the Sassenachs, Asterix and the Olympic Gemmes, Asterix the Roman Sodger, and Asterix and the Pechts.

The other classics now published are the two-part Tintin stories The Saicret o The Unicorn and The Treisure o Rachlan the Reid, both by the well known writer Susan Rennie. Both works are 64pp, priced £7.99 (ISBN 978-1-913573-19-5 and ISBN 978-1-913573-20-1). Like the Asterix series, these Tintin classics also join a growing collection of Tintin stories in Scots including The Derk Isle, The Merk o the Pharoah, Auld King Ottokar’s Sceptre, The Partan wi the Gowden Taes, and Tintin i the Snaws o Tibet.

If you would like to buy any of the above they are available either through BookSource, Glasgow or directly from the published Dalen Scot via acj@dalenalba.com or 01239 811442/07711025238.
