Soutar Festival of Words

8th April 2019

A festival to celebrate contemporary Scottish culture, and the Scots language, will be taking place all around Perth during April. The Soutar Festival of Words will run from Saturday 26 to Monday 29 April 2019 and brings together a whole host of academics, creative writers, teachers and poets at twenty different locations including the AK Bell Library, St John’s Church and Perth Museum and Art Gallery. There will be talks by authors, poetry events, children’s events, music and song, classes in creative writing and walks around Perth inspired by Scottish literature. In addition there will be a screening of a drama based on the life of the poet William Soutar – the inspiration for the festival – and the SLC’s own acting director, Dr Michael Dempster, will be looking at the use of Scots in a global context and in the internet.

Please check the list below for a summary of the festival programme, with links to event details, and download the PDF of the festival guide below. For further information please e-mail events@culturepk.org.uk or telephone 01738 44949.
