Crackin wi Mark Thomson

9th May 2013

On Tuesday 30 April Dauvit Horsbroch and Katrina MacLeod from the SLC caught up with Dundonian poet Mark Thomson. For the past few years Mark has been making a name for himself through his poetry and creative writing projects and has also published a book of verse called ‘The Bard Fae The Buildin Site’. Mark spoke to the SLC about his own experiences in schools at the hands of teachers who held a negative attitude towards the Scots-speaking community which helped to turn children off learning. More recently Mark has revisited schools and worked in creative writing projects using the Dundonian dialect of Scots, the use of which, he says, can make all the difference in making learning a far more positive experience. Mark also spoke about his joint project ‘Tribal Tongues’ together with Gary Robertson of Dundee band The Cundeez, and also about the various other community projects Mark has been involved with. You can hear from Mark in the upcoming SLC interview which will be shown in the coming weeks, so watch this space.
