The Association for Scottish Literary Studies

ASLS_ The Association for Scottish Literary Studies is an is an educational charity that aims to promote the study, teaching and writing of Scottish literature, and to further the study of the languages of Scotland. There is an annual Schools conference which takes place each October.

 

The ‘Schools material’ section of the website offers support and resources for teachers of Upper Primary and Secondary school. The site features:

 

 

 

 

  • Information about the ASLS’ publications, including the series of Scotnotes, which are accessible critical notes on Scottish literary works such as Sunset Song, The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and The Cone-Gatherers;

 

  • Access to a series of Teaching Notes on subjects such as Jackie Kay’s poetry, Scotland’s Place Names and The Languages of Scotland;

 

  • Freely available and downloadable short stories from James Hogg and Robert Louis Stevenson.
