Competitions for Learners

There are a number of writing competitions which provide learners with opportunities to practice writing in Scots.

Scottish Book Trust run a monthly ’50-word Fiction’ competition, with categories for learners in Primary and Secondary schools.

The ASLS Young Writers competition, supported by the Robert Burns World Federation, is open to learners in S1 and S2 and encourages participants to submit entries (in prose, of no more than 750 words) in Scots.

To access teaching resources for writing, refer to Education Scotland’s 100 Key Scots words or Matthew Fitt’s website ‘Scots Hoose’.
