Human Rights Declaration

On 10 December 1948 the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The General Assembly afterwards called on all member states of the UN to publicise the declaration and in particular to disseminate it via schools and other centres of learning, without prejudice to any. The declaration – coming after horrors of World War II (1939-1945) – was an attempt to establish agreement around the world that human beings had the right to enjoy certain basic liberties and freedom of expression. In 2004 Colin Donati translated the whole text of the declaration, including its 30 articles, into Scots and it is reproduced here in the PDF document below.
