Hogmanay celebrations

Hogmanay has been one of the most important celebrations in the Scottish calendar for centuries. In fact for a long time New Year was a much more important festival for Scots than Christmas – it’s all to do with our particular version of the Protestant Reformation!

New Year celebrations often involve burning things which, we suppose, helps relieve the general dreichness of our long winter days!

Here are some examples of New Year celebrations from round the country. Raise a glass, sing a song, dance, do some first fittin and enjoy the party!
