Scots Language Centre Centre for the Scots Leid

Attitudes Survey

The 2010 Public Attitudes Towards the Scots Language survey intended to provide a broad overview of perceptions of the Scots language and attitudes towards it, and to measure behaviours and expectations of its use in Scotland today.

The results of the Scottish Government survey show a huge level of support for the Scots language along with widespread usage.

Launched at the 2010 Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow, the survey shows 85% of respondents claiming to use Scots. The survey shows that the majority of people in Scotland have positive attitudes to the language and feel it is an important part of Scottish life.
