The Beatitudes

The Beatitudes are one of the best known passages in the New Testament. They invite multiple interpretations hinting at social as well as philosophical and religious truths. The Beatitudes have been translated by W L Lorimer in his famous Scots version of the New Testament as the 'Blissins'. Other Scots translations indicate the power of the verse and the compelling nature of the sentiments. The Beatitudes are closely associated with the Feast of All Saints where they form a central part of Roman Catholic liturgical practice. The Scots Language Centre has brought together two versions of the Beatitudes to mark All Saints Day.
