The Origins of Scots: Video

The Origins of Scots The ‘Angus McIntosh Centre for Historical Linguistics’ has produced an infographic video narrating the history of the Scots language.

This resource, ideal for use with senior learners who are studying the SQA Scots Language Award or Scottish Studies, is narrated both in Scots and English and features the voices of Hamish MacDonald, former Scots Scriever in Residence at the National Library of Scotland, and Rhona Alcorn, Chief Executive of the Scottish Language Dictionaries.

The Scots version of the script was composed by Derrick McClure, of the University of Aberdeen.

The video also features an original recording of James Oswald’s “Pentland Hills”, performed by Alistair Hardie in arrangements by both David Johnston and by Hardie himself.
