Eleanor Howie
Staff and members of the Scots Language Centre’s board were saddened to hear that Eleanor Howie, the vice-chair of the SLC Council, died on 26 December after a short illness. Councillor Howie was a long standing member of the SLC’s council and was involved in the many changes that have taken place at the Centre in recent times. Over the years Eleanor offered advice about the running of the Centre and gave particular help with fund raising matters and with the development of friendly relations with Perth and Kinross Council.
Michael Hance, Director of the SLC said he was, “shocked to hear about Cllr Howie’s death”.
“Eleanor could always be relied on to provide sensible suggestions about making the Centre a success. Over the years she gave good advice to me and the staff at the Centre about a range of matters from governance to fund-raising. She will be sorely missed at the Centre and our thoughts just now are with her family and friends.”
As a tribute to Eleanor, the Centre will broadcast an interview with Scots New Testament translator, Robin Lorimer, which she carried out when she began working as a presenter with Heartland Radio.
