Job Opportunity for Scots Speakers
Tobar an Dualchais/Kist o Riches is an exciting and innovative project based at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in Skye. It aims to conserve, digitise, catalogue and make available online Gaelic and Scots recordings from the School of
Scottish Studies at Edinburgh University, BBC Scotland and the National
Trust's Canna Collection. Two cataloguers are now required to work
part-time on Scots materials for at least six months. Applicants may be
based anywhere in Scotland but access to broadband internet is essential.
Cataloguers will work as part of the pilot team, listening to recordings in
their own homes, extracting information and writing summaries of material.
They will also test different working methods and work with Gaelic
cataloguers to help develop guidance for the whole cataloguing team.
We are looking for people with a good knowledge of Scots oral heritage and
familiarity with one or more dialects of the Scots language. Experience of
similar projects would be useful, although training will be given.
Salary £20,134-£23,074 (pro rata). For further information and an
application form, contact Fiona MacKinnon on 01471 888601
or sm00fnf@uhi.ac.uk or dualchas@smo.uhi.ac.uk. Closing date for applications 19 February 2007.
