The Tartan Witch

19th January 2017

Among the new children’s books in Scots lately published is a delightful volume from Ayrshire-based writer Greta Yorke. Greta is a former teacher and has been writing poetry, prose and drama for a number of years. Her new book , The Tartan Witch, tells the story of a witch who gets into scrapes and mishaps, and will no doubt amuse children no end. The text in Scots appears in black bold and is accompanied below by English text in red. At one point the witch falls on her broom from the sky –

Help ma boab, did

Ah no land on tap o a

Weel-paddit tattie bogle

In a tumshie field.

It is beautifully illustrated throughout by Maggie Bolton who is an artist and also former teacher. The book is priced £7.99 (ISBN 978-0-9932124-4-4). The Tartan Witch is available to buy online through Amazon.
