Scots Language Centre Centre for the Scots Leid

The O is for Hoolet tour

30th May 2016

Creative artist and performer Ishbel McFarlane, who is well known for her love of and support for the Scots language, is currently touring Scotland with her one-woman show ‘O is for Hoolet’. Ishbel sets out to challenge the way we were taught about language in general, and in particular confronts the prejudices directed against Scots speakers. Who owns language, she asks, and who governs it, and why?  Ishbel asks her audience to question why the Scots language was subdued and marginalised and invites them to reclaim their inheritance. After the show there will be a discussion chaired by Nicola Black.

There are still three dates in the tour of Scotland, as follows – Wednesday 1 June 2016, 7.30pm at The Gaiety Theatre, Carrick Street, Ayr, tickets £12 (phone 01292 288235), Friday 10 June 2016, 7.30pm at Tynron Parish Hall, Main Street, Tynron, Dumfries and Galloway, tickets £9 (phone 01387 253383 or e-mail info@dgartsfestival.org.uk), and Saturday 11 June 2016, 7.30pm, The Swallow Theatre, Moss Park, Ravenstone, Whithorn, tickets £10 (phone 01988 850368 or e-mail info@swallowtheatre.co.uk).
