Promoting Scots

The Scots Language Centre is one of a number of organisations that exist to further the interests of the Scots language and its speakers.

The Scots Language Society, founded in 1972, promotes the use of Scots in formal, informal and every day use. The society also publishes Lallans magazine. The only magazine for contemporary writing in Scots published wholly in Scots.

Education Scotland has a Scots Language Co-ordinator to help ensure Scots language teachers are supported and that Scots is developed across the curriculum as appropriate.

Creative Scotland has, in partnership with the National Library of Scotland, appointed a Scots Scriever. The Scriever is to produce original creative work in Scots across any art-form, as well as raising awareness, appreciation and use of Scots across the country and amongst all parts of the population.

A number of local organisations that promote Scots in the community also exist, such as Shetland ForWirds, the Strath Isla Scots Spickers and the Buchan Heritage Society.

Scots Radio is a web programme that speaks about the culture and what's going on in the world of Scots-speakers.

The Scots Language Forum on Facebook is a discussion group for speakers of Scots and those interested in Scots language and culture.

Lowlands-L is an email discussion list for people who share an interest in the languages and cultures of the Lowlands (the low-lying areas adjacent to the North Sea and the Baltic Sea).
