Literacy and Scots Language

3-18 Literacy and English Review Education Scotland 2015

This review is part of a series evaluating the quality of childrens and young peoples learning and achievements in early learning and childcare settings and schools in Scotland. It describes and evaluates current practice in learning, teaching and achievement in literacy and English, and sets out key strengths and areas for improvement. It includes examples of good practice and identifies an agenda for raising attainment, in support of the Scottish Governments current priorities.

The attached PDF is an extract from this report. It includes chapter 4 which outlines how Scots language learning and Scots language texts can enhance learning and achievement in English, and appendix 4 where there is practical guidance on developing Scots language use in the classroom.
