Conversation Now Translated into Scots

The Scottish Government’s 'National Conversation' document, published in the autumn of 2007, has now been translated into the Scots language. Ministers Linda Fabiani and Maureen Watt are to be congratulated for taking the decision to include Scots. Both of the ministers, who are currently exploring ways to make provision for Scots speakers, acted swiftly once it became apparent that Scots was the only indigenous language that had been neglected. L Colin Wilson (pictured right), writer of the Luath 'Scots Language Learner', inquired with the Ministry and offered his own translation from the original English, once it became known that Scots had been left out. The actual document outlines the ideas and opinions of First Minister Alex Salmond, and the SNP government, regarding possible ways forward for a future Scotland. The document contends that sovereignty belongs to the people of Scotland alone and that the SNP government will stand by its pledge to hold a referendum concerning an independent Scotland.
