Omens
Frae Ceit Macinnes, cotter, Arisaig
Weel tae the fore o a Monday foreneen,
I lippent tae a lammie's lowe
An the bairn-like scraich o a snipe
Fin dowdy dowped-doon, booed;
An the blae, blae, gowk
An nae maet in ma wame.
On a Tuesday gloamin, fair,
I saw on the smeeth stane
The snail, slivvery, fite
Abune the dyke o holes.
The foal o a cuddy
O sprauchly gait
Turned dock-roon tae me
An I kent frae yon,
The year wadna rise wi me.
