The Scots Language Centre frequently receives enquiries from people (often living outside Scotland) who want to know how to go about learning the Scots language. Two main resources have been produced in recent years that would be helpful to learners.

Firstly there is 'A SCOTS GRAMMAR: SCOTS GRAMMAR AND USAGE' by David Purves, first published in Edinburgh in 1997 by the Saltire Society (ISBN 0-8541 10-68-2)which has been revised and updated in recent years.

Secondly, there is 'LUATH SCOTS LANGUAGE LEARNER: AN INTRODUCTION TO CONTEMPORARY SPOKEN SCOTS' by L Colin Wilson, published by Luath Press in Edinburgh in 2002 (ISBN 0-946487-91-X). This work consists of 25 graded lessons, with grammar notes, vocabulary tables, dialogue exercises and more. There is also an accompanying CD which can be purchased separately. If you wish to purchase this please contact Luath Press via their website at www.luath.co.uk.
